KLARAV- Sweden

Klara Teoretiska Gymnasium Vallgatan is located in the downtown area of Gothenburg, Sweden. We currently have about 350 students in grades 10-12 specializing in science, social studies, & business studies. The staff of 30 consists of certified teachers, school management, & a student welfare team.

Our students come from in & around the city of Gothenburg, which means that we have a great diversity among our students. This is a fact we are proud of & continuously keep promoting. Furthermore, we pride ourselves in emphasizing the importance of a sustainable development of society in everything we do. We also nurture close ties to the higher educational system & do our best to prepare our students for further studies.

Currently, we are involved in several Erasmus+ projects. Firstly, we are hosting foreign teachers for a job shadowing experience here in our school & have been sending out our own faculty members since 2021. Secondly, we have been involved in a KA2 school partnership with schools in France, Italy, Poland, & Spain. Currently, we are involved in a similar project with schools in Norway & Germany. We also send student groups on short-term mobilities to Latvia, Croatia, Italy, Spain, & Austria. Moreover, we are partners in several KA2 strategic partnership projects, including Jobshadoweur, PTMA, & REMATT. We also coordinate the KA2 project MANAGEMOB.

The topic of sustainable development is very close to our heart as a school offering multiple courses in the field of social studies. We have a strong desire to foster & instil democratic values in our students. Through this project, we would be able to convey the importance of protecting the environment to not only our students but to students across Europe.

In recent years, we have noticed that students seem to know less and less about sustainability initiatives in Europe. We strongly feel that it is our obligation to get our students actively involved in the preservation of our world. School material & lesson plans easily get outdated & we would be happy to use more modern & updated content to help our students understand where we are & where we came from. By being part of ECOSTAR, we will produce content for lessons on this very important subject that we can use, as well as others. We would also be able include more teachers & students in our ongoing Erasmus work.

The results from ECOSTAR will be very usable for us as teaching materials in all of our classes. The learning modules will facilitate teaching & discussing the topic for our teachers. It will also make the topic more accessible to students & hopefully help them understand the importance of sustainable development. Since the materials will be digitally accessible, it will be easy for our teachers to use the resources. It is our belief that the students will find the topic more approachable & interesting through the use of modern technology.

As mentioned above, we are already involved in several Erasmus+ projects & are looking to strengthen our commitment to the Erasmus cause. We are actively involved in four strategic KA2 Erasmus+ projects which means we have wide & broad experience in being contributing partners. We know what work is involved & how to ensure that it gets done. Apart from experience & ideas from mentioned projects, we can offer the perspective of an English & German language teacher & someone with abundant experience from various international exchange programs - both from an organizational & participating point of view.
